**Este mes tendremos como oradores invitados a Uly Ramos y Sandy Mislow de SANYS (Asociación de Autodefensa del Estado de Nueva York)**
The ARISE Coalition, a group of parents, advocates, educators and other key stakeholders who have been working together since 2008 to push for changes to improve day-to-day experiences and long-term outcomes for students with disabilities in New York City, has been seeking feedback this fall from parents and caregivers about their students’ experiences with special education in NYC public schools. Eager to hear directly from families about their students’ and family experiences, earlier this year, we shared a short survey in multiple languages that covered a range of issues from related services to transportation. Thanks to all who completed that survey.
Now we’d like to hear more in a Speak Out for families. We’re asking parents and students to join us to talk about the changes they would recommend to the city around special education to ensure all students with disabilities are supported. This conversation will be pivotal to helping build ARISE’s advocacy agenda for systemic change in 2025.
Are you a Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC) AND a parent or caretaker of a loved one with special needs 21 years old and under? Let’s come together as a group to learn, share our experiences, resources and empower each other in this safe and confidential space.
This month we will be having special guest speakers Uly Ramos and Regional Coordinator for the NYC-Westchester Region Sandy Mislow from SANYS ( Self-Advocacy Association of New York State)
