← SIDDC – General Council Evening Meeting ADAPT – Creating a Calm & Consistent Home →

My son Marco is 14yrs old and has Down’s syndrome & Autism. I feel very fortunate that he was born during a time and in a place where there are so many resources and knowledgeable people willing to share their experiences and education. The SI Developmental Disabilities Council’s various committees provide information and network opportunities to both parents and professionals at various stages.

When a child is diagnosed with a disability their family is thrust into a new world, with a new language and a maze of information. The SIDDC help parents and professionals bridge the gaps of information and resources for those in need. Over the course of my son’s life I’ve been active in a few of the SIDDC committees and as he gets older I’m sure I’ll be utilizing additional committees.

It’s comforting to know that there are resources and supports available to Staten Island’s disabled community only a phone call or website search away. And most importantly a group of people that meet regularly to brainstorm and continue the flow of information to those who want to better the lives of the entire SI community. I’m truly appreciative to have such a imperative resource available to my family.

Maria Cuffaro, parent

CALL TO ACTION!
Call to Action: Vaccine Priority for New Yorkers With I/DD
Nearly 100,000 New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) supported and served in community-based settings have yet to be placed within a priority vaccination group. In response, The Arc New York has launched a state-wide grassroots campaign, sending the message to all state and federal representatives that all people with I/DD should receive Phase 1 vaccination priority. To add your voice to this important initiative, follow this link, provide your information, and the letter will be sent right to your representative’s email.
